The goal of the No Flap™ is to stop the damage flapping can cause and to provide an alternative to sticky or escapable bandages. The No Flap™ Ear Wrap allows the ears to remain in a natural position while keeping them immobile. This also allows ease of access to the surgical site or the injury for frequent monitoring by the veterinarian or owner and for applying medications or keeping wound site clean during recovery. Each wrap is designed to allow you to provide a more custom fit. (the length can be retracted to provide un-obscured peripheral vision) We ask that you monitor your pet to make sure you have it attached properly. Please always consult with your veterinarian and follow their recommended treatment and recovery plan while using the No Flap™. Monitor your pet’s ears daily to assess healing. Contact your veterinarian immediately with questions or concerns during recovery.

Our wraps are measurement specific. The skeletal structure of your dog or cat determines the size you should order. As an example for dogs, some Labrador’s wear the Large, Medium or S/M size. Even within the same breed, each dog is unique in length and collar size.
As an example for cats, our small size fits the majority of the small to medium sized domesticated cats. The cat Large size fits bigger domesticated breeds such as Maine Coons.
If you are unsure as to which size to order, you can email us your pet's species, breed and measurements and our team is happy to assist you in selecting the correct size for a proper fit. Instructions and video tutorials, as well as a sizing chart can be found here.
Yes! We recommend laundering the No Flap™ at least once a week. Remove the inner spines and hand wash or machine wash on gentle cycle using cool/warm (not hot) water. Mild soap is recommended, making sure to rinse all the soap thoroughly. You can line dry the wraps or toss in a dryer on air dry, no heat. A hair dryer can be used to dry it quickly, when held at a distance and on a low or cool air setting. (do not dry the wrap when it is on your pet's head!) Hot heat should be avoided as it will warp the inner plastic skeletal structure that is sewn into the face and the collar piece. When machine washing, please make sure all Velcro is attached to itself to prevent snagging.
Denim is 100% cotton
Pinpoint Mesh is a poly/cotton blend
Should I use the No Flap™ Ear Wrap and see if the condition or injury clears up on its own before contacting my veterinarian?
The No Flap™ Ear Wrap does not take the place of medical treatment by a professional. Please seek a medical opinion, diagnosis, and treatment before and while using the No Flap Ear Wrap. Ruling out infection and creating a healing plan is always a good idea.
My cat/dog has a large hematoma. Should I use the No Flap™ to avoid surgery or for post surgery protection?
The No Flap™ is especially helpful for senior dogs and cats or those that struggle with health conditions that are not good candidates for undergoing anesthesia. We encourage you to discuss the best treatment plan for your pet with your veterinarian. Some customers choose to avoid surgery, no matter the age of the pet. Be advised if the hematoma is large, it may develop scar tissue that can sometimes leave crinkles in the ear with or without the use of the No Flap™. For a more detailed look into recovery from a hematoma in conjunction with using the No Flap™, please visit this informative blog.
No, in fact another one of the great things about the No Flap Ear Wrap is the ease of access for applying medications such as ear drops or ointments. The collar piece can stay attached while the Velcro under the chin is undone to gain access to the ear. Once the medication is applied, simply reattach the Velcro. Additionally, easy access to the ears for observation of healing just got easier.
My dog/cat just had surgery and has an e-collar and bandages on. I can’t get measurements, what should I do?
This is a common situation. All sizes are adjustable in length and collar.
When measuring, it is best to have the dog or cat sitting or standing. This will ensure a correct length and collar measurement. For the length, start the measurement in the center of the forehead about 1 inch above the middle or center of their eyes. Continue up the forehead and down the back of their neck stopping the measurement at the bottom of where a well fitted collar or an E-collar would naturally rest on the neck. If you have measured, low or loose, all the way to the shoulders/withers, you have gone too far. For the collar size, measure snugly where their e-collar or cone sits allowing a snug fit, but not too tight. 1-2 finger give underneath is recommended.
The No Flap™ can be used on dogs with Prick, Drop, Rose, Tulip, Hound, Flying, Button and Semi-Prick ears. We have many GSD’s, Chihuahuas, Frenchie’s, Australian Cattle Dogs, etc. that have Prick Ears (upright) that have used it during recovery. When the wrap is applied we advise that ears of all “styles” rest naturally, unless otherwise directed by your veterinarian. For upright ears, the wrap is placed on the head and the ears fold forward comfortably.
If you are concerned about your dog's ears laying flat while healing, please consult your veterinarian. The wrap is not a compression bandage, but rather a recovery device that keeps the ears from flapping. It is fitted, but not as tight as wrapped gauze and bandaging around the head. We defer to your vet as they know your dog best!
*Drop Ears and Hound Ears*
Our wraps are designed to stop the flapping from the head out.
If they can't flap those long gorgeous ears they can't draw the blood to the ear tips. With the long eared breeds, their ears are likely to not be completely contained in the side pockets of our wraps, but rest assured even if the long ear tips hang out a bit, they still can't get the momentum going that will draw the blood into the compromised tissue or through the possible ear tip injury.
What prevents the No Flap™ from sliding back over the ears, and or from being pawed forward and off the head?
The No Flap™ Ear Wrap has sturdy plastics strategically sewn into the wrap forming a skeletal structure for support. Anchored by the top and bottom of the wrap there are two pockets that contain plastic spines that prevent the dog or cat from pushing the wrap backward. The No Flap™ features a cinch strap just above the collar on the outside back of the neck that when cinched behind the ears, helps keep them in place while not allowing the wrap to be pushed forward. The cinch strap is also used to stabilizes the wrap from shifting side to side.
My dog/cat has an ear surgery scheduled in a week to remove a growth on his ear flap. There will be some stitching. Should I buy the No Flap™ early and get him use to it?
If you have the opportunity to acclimate your pet to the No Flap Ear Wrap a couple of days ahead of time, he/she will be used to having something wrapped around his/her head post-surgery. We suggest that you put it on and take it off several times, leaving it on a little longer each time. You can reward them with a small treat each time you re-attach it, building a positive experience.
My dog/cat has an ear infection which has caused a hematoma. Will your wrap be able to help us if they are prone to infections? We are concerned about airflow but would like to be able to stop the ears from flapping to help heal the hematoma?
We defer to your veterinarian as they know your furry friend best! If they have recommended the No Flap™ Ear Wrap, keep in mind it is less constricting than traditional bandaging and tape used for hematoma recovery. Our Pinpoint Mesh is recommended for pets during recovery who need the most breathable fabric option. Some veterinarians prescribe powders that can be used to stop moisture buildup. We have had customers who rolled jumbo sized cotton balls in calamine-based powder (talc free!) and placed them above the ear canal before attaching the wrap, to stop moisture build up. This needs to be done several times a day. Additionally, you can alternate the cone and the No Flap Ear Wrap to give your pet a relaxing break for eating and drinking or just letting them play for a while. (Just make sure they do not scratch or flap their ears, reinjuring the wound or opening a surgical site.) Here is a great, short, informative blog for pups that suffer with moisture in the ears!
The No Flap™ is more breathable than tight gauze and bandaging. The No Flap™ fits snugly, but not too tight, allowing the ears to hang normally, in their natural position. The best part is that the ears are not trapped. While snuggling or watching TV with your furry friend, you are able to scratch their heads from time to time. You do not need to completely remove the No Flap™. Simply detach the chin velcro to access the head and ears. We advise to always check on their ears throughout the day to ensure all is looking A-OK and healing.
We defer to your Veterinarian’s advice while your pet is undergoing recovery of any kind. When recovering from a hematoma, a surgery that requires stitches, vasculitis or any small injury to the ear flap, it is very important to keep the ear stable and protected both day and night until ear is completely healed. Our goal is to provide an alternative to escapable bandages and stop the flapping that forces blood through the pinna/ear flap and exiting through already compromised tissue. All it takes is one strong flap or scratch of the ears and it's back to square one. All pets need a break at times. In our own experience, when sitting next to them, you can undo the wrap to let her/him relax for brief periods. You can gently scratch her/his head etc.
We defer to your Vet’s advice as to when the area is completely healed. If your pet is prone to moisture build-up (there are powders your vet can prescribe)
The e-collar may be necessary depending on the severity of the wound, in the case of a very delicate invasive surgery or simply if you have a very determined dog. Always check with your veterinarian to choose the right treatment, healing plan, recovery products and application.
The No Flap™ can be worn in conjunction with the e-collar or cone, it will provide easy access and ease when applying medications and keeping the wound site clean without having to cut off bandaging and re-bandage. Your veterinarian will decide if the use of both is necessary. When and if your veterinarian gives the OK to merge solely into the No Flap™, your pet should be accustomed to having the wrap on their head. If your dog or cat is persistently determined to get the wrap off the e-collar or cone is strongly advised to use in addition to the NFEW to protect their ears during recovery and also prevent excessive and premature wear to the No Flap™.
The e-collar has it's merits, but can cause nervousness, depression and anxiety with a longer healing plan. The No Flap™ allows them to eat, drink, play and sleep comfortably. It does not block their peripheral vision and best of all, your pet can fit through a dog or cat door!
If you have more than one dog or cat, or a puppy or kitten with sharp baby teeth, it's best to keep the active chewers supervised or separated from the pets who are wearing the wrap. Please remember once the wrap is fitted that you can trim off the excess Velcro tabs, which in turn, eliminates a grabbing point for active fur friends or siblings. Dogs and Cats with determined temperaments, who rub their head on floors, trees, fences and furniture can also wear the material of the wrap faster. To help prevent this, make sure you have the wrap fitted with the proper length to eliminate blocked peripheral vision which in turn can make them nervous increasing their desire to rub and shift the wrap around. If your pet is still very determined, wearing an e-collar in conjunction with the No Flap™ is advised.
Pinpoint mesh - is strong and breathable, making it one of our most popular fabrics for the dog and cats who:
Are experiencing a longer healing plan such as a hematoma or an active ear/yeast infection with a hematoma
Need the most breathable fabric
Want the softest and lightest weight fabric
Are prone to ear infections and need the most airflow
Are seniors or have sensitive skin or ears
Live in a very warm or humid climate
Denim- (at this time only available for dogs) Our most durable material, recommended for:
Younger dogs or adult dogs with a determined temperament
Nervous scratching, heavy itching
Attending doggie daycare, or rowdy play, tugging or pulling playmates
Dogs that rub on chain link dog runs, wood fencing and trees
Active dogs, dogs that spend time hiking or rooting around in cheat grass
Nasty nicks and tears on the ear while hunting, field training etc.
Most likely the wrap is not applied and aligned properly. Re-attach the collar higher, on the collar line, not too low. A common mistake is to have the collar attached too low. This then causes the whole wrap to be misaligned, thus pulling the ears back.
*re-attach collar higher and snug (1-2 finger give underneath)
*Place head piece down on head, attaching chin Velcro
*Make sure the important cinch strap is snug. It helps with stability. It also gathers the material between the head and collar piece to hug the fabric in to better contain the ears.
WHEN YOUR DOGS EARS ARE ALIGNED UNDER THE WRAP WITH THE SEAMS OF THE WRAP'S EAR FLAPS, IT'S A PROPER FIT.
We suggest that you always keep their personal collar with their identification on at all times. Their collar should be worn below the No Flap™, not under or woven and wrapped around the No Flap™ collar. Loosen their personal collar just a bit to allow it to hang below or circle over the No Flap™ comfortably. This will prevent your pet's personal collar from compromising the No Flap™ and shifting the wrap askew.
We suggest that you ease them into it if you can. Usually, merging from the e-collar to the No Flap™ Ear Wrap really improves their spirits, especially if they have been in the e-collar for a long time. We recommend allowing them to check out the No Flap by you holding it and allowing them to smell it, then gently opening it up and adhering the Velcro and taking it apart. The Velcro sound can be different to sensitive dogs and cats, this helps acclimate them as it will be close to their head/ears. Don't rush to take the e-collar off if your pet is sensitive to new things, you can always reward with treats by short intervals of applying and taking off the wrap in conjunction to your dog or cat's ears being protected with an e-collar recovery product.
